BOIL WATER ADVISORY EARLSTOWN - 2nd notice

Published on mardi 8 septembre 2020 in 10:38

BOIL WATER ADVISORY RENEWAL

Do not use tap water without boiling it at a rolling boil for at least one minute, or use bottled water.

Recent analyses have shown the presence of fecal coliforms or Escherichia coli bacteria in the Earsltown distribution network's water. Contamination of water by these bacteria means that the water might also contain microorganisms that are dangerous to your health. The most common symptoms are vomiting, diarrhea, and stomach pain.

Please share this advisory with your friends and neighbours, especially people who are isolated or in precarious health.

WHAT YOU SHOULD DO:

You should use tap water that has been boiled at a rolling boil for one full minute beforehand or bottled water for all of the following purposes until further notice:

  • Drinking and preparing beverages;
  • Preparing baby bottles and baby food;
  • Washing and preparing food to be eaten raw (fruits, vegetables, etc.);
  • Preparing food that doesn't require long cooking (canned soups, desserts, etc.);
  • Making ice cubes;
  • Brushing your teeth or rinsing your mouth;
  • Providing water to pets.

Discard ice cubes (don't forget refrigerator water dispensers), food and beverages that were prepared with unboiled tap water after August 23, 2020.

You can use water directly from the tap for:

  • Preparing food and dishes that require long boiling for cooking;
  • Washing dishes with hot water and detergent, making sure you dry them well;
  • Running the dishwasher if it is set at the hottest cycle;
  • Washing clothes and taking showers or baths. Make sure young children don't swallow water while bathing, or wash them with a facecloth.

If you have a water treatment device at your residence, you must apply the measures indicated above, unless it is an in-home water purifier designed to disinfect water. Devices such as softeners are generally ineffective for eliminating microorganisms.

We apologize for any inconvenience this situation may cause and thank you for your understanding. The town of Waterville is currently taking all available measures to determine the source of the problem and correct it.

Public works September 9, 2020.
